The New Braunfels Public Library (NBPL) received exemplary attendance from patrons for the 2017 Summer Reading Program event. The Summer Reading theme this year was Build a Better World. NBPL offered specialty reading programs including Summer Reading, reading clubs, and book clubs for all ages in addition to the regularly scheduled programs. The additional Summer Reading programs and events greatly increased library circulation and attendance. All Summer Reading registrations were completed digitally through ReadSquared and reading logs could be entered through the ReadSquared app or with a paper copy provided by the library.
Children’s Program: The Children’s Summer Reading programs included several fun activities and events. The Summer Reading Kick-Off event and the Friends of the Library Children’s Book Sale started off the program at the beginning of the summer. Many events throughout the course of Summer Reading included storytelling, live animal shows, musical guests, magic shows, puppet shows, and the “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” program.
Teen’s Program: This year all teens went digital to log their Summer Reading minutes! Some summer teen programs included Anime Club, Art Afternoons, DIY crafts/activities, Escape the Library event, and more! Teens were also given the opportunity to win custom prizes!
Adult Program: Adult library patrons were given the opportunity to complete reading logs for a chance to win tickets to places including nearby zoos, museums, and botanical gardens. Other prizes included Kindle Fires and Family Swim Passes.
