New Braunfels Public Library conducted a virtual 2020 Summer Reading Program due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year's theme was "Imagine Your Story," and the library held programs for children, teens, and adults via Zoom and Facebook Live while also reopening to the public at a reduced capacity on June 1.
Special summer programs for children this year included an online puppet-making workshop through Matt Sandbank's Shadow Factory; Austin Reptile Shows; an author visit with "Meet Yasmin!" author Saadia Faruqi, where we were also able to provide 20 signed copies of her books to early registrants; the Chemistry Road Show and more.
We continued to use a gamecard format for summer activities that allowed families to participate together, and this year we tailored the activities to keeping social distancing and staying home in mind.
The library was still able to offer prizes to summer reading participants; children and teens received a book of their choice for their first and second Bingos, and they received grand prize entries for every blackout card they turned in. Adults received separate prizes and grand prize entries.
