Things to Do Offline with Your Kids

  • Write a Short Story/Make a Video
    What do you think your teacher is doing during this time at home? Cooking? Teaching? Inventing? Playing ball in the house? Using their outside voices while inside?
  • At-Home Scavenger Hunt
    Collect: Your favorite snack, your favorite toy/personal item, your favorite book, a die/dice or piece from your favorite board game, an object that is GREEN, an object that is ROUND, an object you write with, and an object that is older than you
  • At-Home ABC Scavenger Hunt
    Collect: One item that begins with the letter “A,” one that begins with the letter “B,” and continue all the way to “Z.” Take a picture of your collection! Which letter was hardest to find? Which was easiest? Are there any you could not find?
  • Draw a Map of Your Local Area
    Draw a map of your neighborhood. Draw a map of your school. Can you draw a map of your town?
  • At-Home ABC Scavenger Hunt
    Earth Day will be here soon! What can you create out of materials that can be recycled (cardboard boxes, paper towel rolls, plastic bottles)? A robot? A city? A car?

In response to the needs of library staff and their patrons who are practicing self-isolation and social distancing during the coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19), STAR Net and its NASA@ My Library project have developed a special collection of fun, easy activities to engage patrons in STEM through a new “STEAM Ahead @ Home” initiative!
